Warming-up is overrated
Is is the little things in life that we take for granted. I am having the unique problem of being incapable of warming up before I practice. I never thought I would be admitting this, but there is something good about Temple's practice rooms. Minuscule, dark, and decrepit though they be, they have a balanced temperature (we will ignore the fact that they only have one temperature- hot). Since this week is spring break, I am trying to adapt to playing at home again. However, in a non-insulated, 300-year-old house one might expect drafts. The blustery weather this week as taken this tendency and magnified it ten-fold to the point where there is a continuous draft in the upstairs "conservatory." I have retreated to the third floor, but this has not improved matters much. I am still having trouble getting past the warming-up stage. I practiced for 40 minutes this morning and my instrument still felt cold- this must be good practice for something, but I don't know quite what.

But you can't fault the homemade meals, coffee brought to your bedside table, cheerful smiles and encouragement you receive while attempting to practice at home....and what about that incredible sunshine pouring in those 12 foot unsealed windows along with those drafts??? all that LIGHT! WOW!
